York Creek Vineyard, 84% Petite Sirah, 10% Zinfandel, 6% Carignane
Exuberant and dark! The 2014 Petite Sirah is more floral than fruity on the nose. Lavender, violets, and orange blossoms rise above notes of raspberries and blueberries. It is on the full and weighty palate where fruit lives and is offered up in heaping servings of blackberries, cherries, and pluots accented by sweet vanilla and toasty oak. The wine is richly textured and full bodied on the palate with powerful fruit flavors that are balanced by firm, ripe tannins that lead to a long lasting finish.
York Creek Vineyard, named for the defining feature of the land that flows year round through the property, is located high atop the Mayacamas range of mountains on the western edge of Napa Valley north of St. Helena. Perched at 1250 – 1800 feet above sea level with welldrained soil, its unique position in the Spring Mountain District is well known for producing dark and intensely flavored wines enables the grapes to mature slowly and retain their acidity and balance.
