Following the attacks of 9/11, a small team of Army Special Forces soldiers were inserted deep behind enemy lines to commence an uprising against the Taliban.
One of those teams – known as “ODA-595” linked up with friendly Afghan forces and initiated hostilities against the Taliban Warlords in Northern Afghanistan.
Operating in near isolation, ODA 595 went into combat on horseback against superior numbers of heavily-armed Taliban troops armed with nothing but their rifles.
This team became known as the “Horse Soldiers”
These same men banded together to create American Freedom Distillery. Their 16,000 square-foot distillery is located in Downtown St. Petersburg, Florida, where they distill their Rekker Rum. Their whiskey is made in Ohio in conjunction with Middle West Spirits. A portion of the proceeds of every bottle sold by American Freedom goes towards maintaining the America’s Response Monument.
"70% corn, 20% red winter wheat, 10% barley; no age statement. Big cereal and lumberyard aromas evoke young craft whiskey, with hints of red pepper and a modest menthol note adding some nuance. The palate is sultry and slightly smoky, a bit green at times but spiked with notes of dark chocolate and hazelnut, both of which also add some intrigue. The barrel char character makes a big return on the finish, along with a slight furniture polish note. It’s a credible craft bourbon, but nothing too far from the straight and narrow. 95 proof."
