Darroze Vintage 1974 Bas-Armagnac Domaine de Tucom à Cravencères

45% ABV, 750 ml

Made from 80% Baco, 20% Ugni Blanc

One of our favorite Negociants in the Armagnac world is Francis Darroze. His specialty is buying brandy from small producers scattered around Gascony, and finishing the brandy is his cellars. They are all bottled at cask strength, and bottled as vineyard designated, vintage-dated Armagnacs. Each one is a masterpiece.

The older Armagnacs are constructed from 100% Bacco, a grape known more for its bass, producing a full-bodied and “fat” Armagnac. The Bacco of Gascony is slowly being phased out—“hybrid” grapes like Bacco soon will no longer be allowed in the AOC region.

Tasting Notes from the Producer

Nice golden color, brown reflections. A remarkable nose that combines aromas of dried fruits (grapes, apricot) with candied fruits and jams, accompanied by fine spices, salted butter caramel, tobacco and leather. Very complex. In mouth, the armagnac is still very alive, with a clear attack. Then aromas of fruit cake, spices, crème brulée. Very long.
