The oldest house in Bas Armagnac, the Dartigalongue family began to distill in 1813. In 1838, Pascal Dartigalongue founded the first Maison d'Armagnac in Nogaro, the heart of the Bas Armagnac region. In 1870 son Joseph acquired a large vineyard in Salles d'Armagnac near Nogaro.

The Dartigalongue 1964 Vintage Bas Armagnac is a remarkable example of the craftsmanship and aging potential of this iconic French spirit. With 60 years of maturation, it offers a deeply complex and luxurious profile. On the nose, it delivers initial woody notes, complemented by a delightful marshmallow-like sweetness. As it opens up, more complex aromas emerge, including hints of burnt apple crisp, lanolin, and even a touch of candle wax and coffee beans.

On the palate, the Armagnac begins with the sweetness of dried fruits or black raisins, followed by a more profound, oily texture as it moves through the mouth. There’s a hint of rancio (a hallmark of aged spirits), soft blue cheese, and a beautifully viscous finish, with lingering notes of raisins, honey, and sweet, woody flavors. This Armagnac stands as a "stately beauty," showcasing the unique characteristics that come from such long aging in the Bas Armagnac region.
