Domaine Jean Grivot 2016 Richebourg Grand Cru

"The 2016 Richebourg Grand Cru was not touched at all by the frost, so there are the full five barrels this year (sometimes it can be six). It has a majestic bouquet with ample blackberry, raspberry preserve and brown spice scents, later a touch of white flowers and truffle. This is so mercurial in the glass. The palate is medium-bodied with fine-grain tannin. This is beautifully focused, tensile and brimming with energy, yet it remains linear, almost aloof right to the finish, a covert sign that it should not be broached for at least a decade like most great Richebourgs. An aristocrat." Robert Parker 98 Points

"Almost as good as the 2015 - and that’s saying a lot - this hails from a 0.32-hectare plot, ranging in age between 60 and 80 years’ old. This is a stunning Grand Cru that’s already a pleasure to drink but needs at least a decade in bottle. Svelte, sensuous and very attractive, it’s a diva of a wine with intricate, finely balanced flavours and chalky precision. 2026-40."  Tim Atkin, 98 Points

"Here too there is just enough wood hovering in the background of the wonderfully spicy, airy and cool array of mostly dark berry fruit and floral aromas to remark upon. The tautly muscular and intensely mineral-driven large-scaled flavors possess innate power while drenching the palate in dry extract while delivering gorgeous depth and length on the dusty and youthfully austere finish. This is terrific though like several wines in the range, it would be virtually pointless to open a bottle young and besides, there is so much potential here that it would be a shame to waste it." Burghound 97 Points

"This is pure, featuring cherry, raspberry, floral, mineral and smoky flavors. Elegant and linear, showing intensity, balance and grace. Subtle, yet sneaks up on you with uncompromising length and class. Best from 2022 through 2043." Wine Spectator, 97 Points
