Domaine Michel Magnien 2012 1er Cru Morey-Saint-Denis Les Chaffots

Description

"Good bright, deep red. Discreet nose hints at red fruits, cardamom and licorice, along with a slightly yeasty suggestion of reduction. Quite dry on the palate, conveying a less-ripe impression to its almost tart flavors of sour red cherry, ginger and fresh herbs. Finishes with very firm-edged, dusty tannins. This extremely backward wine will no doubt need a longer elevage. The yield here was a very low 17 hectoliters per hectare (these vines were hard-hit by caterpillars, which ate the young buds in spring) and the pH of 3.28 is among the lowest of the 2012 collection here. A bit of a cipher today." 89-91 Points Stephen Tanzer
