"A blend that can change from vintage to vintage, the 2017 Andosol is a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon and Zinfandel. While the nose is marked by scents of redcurrants and gentle herbal shadings, the palate is full-bodied but taut and juicy, with silky but firm tannins and ample length.
Part of Gaylon Lawrence's Napa empire overseen by Master Sommelier Carlton McCoy, Ink Grade is on Howell Mountain, largely east-facing. McCoy calls the 750-acre tract, "A hard site with very restrictive volcanic soils." It was purchased by Heitz during the 1990s and now includes approximately 220 acres of vines. Much of the fruit is sold to other Napa Valley producers, but some is retained for winemaker Matt Taylor to bottle under the Ink Grade label."Robert Parker 92 Points
