The 2018 Syrah Ex Umbris is purple-colored with superior aromatics of smoke, game, bacon, and blueberry. Smooth-textured and medium to full-bodied, on the palate the fruit is layered and the flavors spicy and savory with some elegance. It can be enjoyed over the next 6-8 years.
The winery was founded in 1994 and David O’Reilly is the winemaker. He makes extensive use of DuBrul Vineyard grapes, an under the radar but superb site in Yakima Valley.
"One-hundred percent Syrah, the 2018 Ex Umbris displays a deep purple core and has a nose of roasted plums, dark cherry and dried blackberries. Medium to full-bodied, the wine has a structured palate with hints of blackberry reduction and baked earth, before heading toward a straightforward finish that provides pleasure. It is undoubtedly crushable and perfect with barbecue. The wine rested in neutral French oak for 11 months. Almost 58,000 bottles produced." Robert Parker 89 Points
