Secret Door 2019 Cabernet Sauvignon Hirondelle Vineyard Stags Leap District Napa Valley

Hirondelle Vineyard is located in the center of the famous Stags Leap District of the Napa Valley. Planted in 1996 it has fully mature vines producing world-class quality Cabernet Sauvignon.

Secret Door is the first of three new projects by Donald Patz, founder of Patz & Hall Wine Co. - After the sale of Patz & Hall, Donald has embarked uponexploring creative new avenues of bringing fine wines to the market through winemaking and collaboration with others. The path to Secret Door is such that secrets must be kept to the provenance of the top-level fruit source that went into the making of two distinct lots of exemplary Cabernet from a single-vineyard.

"Secret Door Winery has searched out our favorite parts of the Napa Valley with an eye to work with dedicated grape-growers prepared to produce Cabernet Sauvignon grapes of the highest quality. We don’t own these vineyards.

We have the full cooperation of the farming teams to follow our growing protocols and produce the grapes that can make the style of wine that is our vision. Purchasing grapes is not an uncommon practice for wineries in California. With a careful selection of the vineyard site and close cooperation between the grower and the winery there is no difference in quality between purchased grapes and estate grown grapes."
