Terrazze dell'Etna 2012 Etna Rosso Carusu

Robert Parker 91 Points: "The 2012 Etna Rosso Carusu is a gorgeous expression that shows the deft hand of the winemaker (and vineyard manager) in a hot vintage. This wine benefits from a darker appearance and a vibrant garnet-ruby color that sets it apart from its peers. The native grapes of Etna (Nerellos Mascalese and Cappuccio) often show color problems in warmer years, but that is not the case here. The bouquet opens to dried cherry, cassis, spice, tar, leather and balsam herb. A similar sense of focus and sharpness characterizes the mouthfeel and the tannic bite adds to that feeling of etched delineation. There is a good amount of dry astringency that could be off-putting if this wine is consumed too young.

Terrazze dell'Etna is part of that new chapter of wineries that makes Etna such an exciting place to grow grapes and make wine today. This project started under the guidance of consulting enologist Riccardo Cotarella and has moved steady over recent years to marinating consistency in quality. The estate counts 36 hectares of vines including some ancient, pre-phylloxera cultivars."
