PRODUCT DESCRIPTION

1792 Single Barrel takes the same well-known recipe behind Barton 1792's Small Batch bourbon and gives it a genuinely more exacting treatment: rather than blending multiple barrels together, Master Distiller Danny Kahn and the distillery team hunt through their aging warehouses for individual casks judged truly exceptional, then bottle each one entirely on its own. As the distillery's own copy explains: "in order to create this unique bourbon, the finest barrels are selected and tasted from the best aging warehouses. Only those barrels deemed 'exceptional' are then bottled individually, one by one. This preserves the distinct character of each barrel."

Barton 1792 Distillery, established in 1879 and the oldest fully operational distillery in Bardstown, Kentucky, builds this bourbon from a high-rye mash bill of 75% corn, 15% rye, and 10% barley — a recipe that leans on corn for classic butterscotch and roasted nut sweetness, while the notably heavy rye component adds real complexity and body relative to more corn-forward bourbons. Each barrel ages a minimum of eight years in new, charred American oak, specifically in Warehouse Z, a structure perched on the edge of a bluff on the distillery's 196-acre property, where genuinely intense heat and humidity accelerate maturation. Once ready, the bourbon is proofed down using water drawn from the distillery's own Tom Moore spring.

Reception among independent reviewers genuinely varies, and that honest range is worth sharing. Caskers' own tasting found the nose "carried by sweet butterscotch notes, though a bit fruitier overall, with hints of ginger and Fuji apple," the palate "caramel-forward, with just a nip due to the rye." Whiskey Consensus's review found "the nose deep and rich with notes of oak, caramel, and vanilla," the first sip delivering "cinnamon, caramel, vanilla, and oak" at medium viscosity. Not every taster has been as enthusiastic — Rickhouse Ramblings' reviewer found "this bottle of 1792 Single Barrel is not my favorite pour. The nose, mouth, and finish are all a bit bland and fall flat. A lot of ethanol really makes it difficult to pull out flavors." Whiskey for the Ages' review was similarly measured, describing "flavors" that "are few and most are faint," picking up "roasted corn and dusty grain" on the nose, with "sensations of acidic and bitter citrus" on the palate that were hard to pin to any particular fruit. Nice Sipper's tasting landed more positively, describing "mellow sweetness which stays throughout the tasting," with "bright citrus notes" emerging toward the middle before "a bit drying" close. This is a genuine single-barrel bourbon where character will vary meaningfully from bottle to bottle — part of the appeal, and part of the honest reality, of true barrel-to-barrel bottling.

Origins & Craftsmanship

1792 Single Barrel Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey is produced by Barton 1792 Distillery, established in 1879 and the oldest fully operational distillery in Bardstown, Kentucky, now owned by Sazerac Company Inc., under Master Distiller Danny Kahn. The bourbon is made from a mash bill of 75% corn, 15% rye, and 10% barley, aged a minimum of eight years in new, charred American oak barrels within Warehouse Z, a facility situated on the edge of a bluff on the distillery's 196-acre property, where intense heat and humidity accelerate maturation.

Barrels are hand-selected from the distillery's best aging warehouses, with only those judged genuinely exceptional bottled individually, preserving each cask's distinct character rather than blending for consistency. The finished bourbon is proofed down using water drawn from the distillery's own Tom Moore spring. Bottled at 49.3% ABV / 98.6 proof, 750ml.
