PRODUCT DESCRIPTION
Domaine du Théron 2018 Cahors “Prestige” is a powerful yet polished expression of Malbec from southwest France—the historic birthplace of the grape. Deeply colored, structured, and richly flavored, it delivers dark berry fruit, spice, and elegant oak with the classic backbone that Cahors wines are known for. This cuvée balances intensity with refinement, offering a serious red that pairs beautifully with hearty cuisine while still maintaining a smooth, approachable texture.
Origins & Craftsmanship
Domaine du Théron is part of Vignobles Pelvillain, a family estate with roots in the Cahors region of Southwest France, where Malbec has been cultivated for centuries. The estate vineyards are planted on the limestone and clay soils surrounding the Lot River, terroir that produces deeply colored wines with firm structure and aging potential.
The Prestige cuvée is crafted primarily from Malbec (locally called Côt or Auxerrois), the dominant grape of the Cahors appellation.
Viticulture and winemaking emphasize concentration and careful extraction:
Only the best barrels are selected for the final Prestige blend, which is then refined further in bottle before release.
The result is a Cahors Malbec that expresses both the region’s traditional power and a modern sense of balance and accessibility.
Critics Reviews
Wine Enthusiast awarded the 2018 Domaine du Théron Cuvée Prestige Cahors 90 points, noting that the wine is “rich and seriously structured,” with firm tannins surrounding “luscious blackberry fruits.” The review suggests the wine is beginning to open beautifully with age.
