PRODUCT DESCRIPTION
Jim Beam Rye Whiskey Pre-Prohibition Style is a bold, spice-forward rye that revives the robust character associated with classic American whiskey prior to 1920. With lively pepper, oak warmth, and a firm grain backbone, it delivers structure and versatility — equally suited for sipping neat or anchoring timeless rye cocktails.
Produced in Kentucky, USA, by the historic Jim Beam Distillery, this expression pays homage to the family’s pre-Prohibition rye heritage. While Jim Beam is globally recognized for bourbon, the Beam family also has deep roots in rye production dating back generations.
Crafted from a rye-forward mash bill (with corn and malted barley supporting structure and fermentation), the spirit is distilled in traditional column stills and matured in new charred American oak barrels. The “Pre-Prohibition Style” designation reflects a bolder, spicier flavor profile reminiscent of early American rye whiskey — more assertive and grain-driven than many modern softened expressions.
The aging process in fresh charred oak allows the rye’s peppery intensity to integrate with caramel, vanilla, and toasted wood nuances, while maintaining the grain’s characteristic edge.
Nose:
Bright and aromatic, with cracked black pepper, baking spice, and toasted grain leading. Subtle notes of caramel, vanilla, and citrus peel add dimension without muting the rye character.
Palate:
Medium-bodied and assertive, opening with peppery rye spice and cinnamon, followed by caramelized sugar, light oak char, and toasted bread crust. A hint of herbal freshness and dried citrus balances the spice.
Finish:
Clean, warm, and moderately long, with lingering spice heat, oak dryness, and a faint vanilla sweetness that fades into a crisp, classic rye conclusion.

"A light crimson whiskey that packs a surprising amount of citrus, clove, freshly cut grass, and toffee on the nose. In the mouth it is not the spiciest of ryes, and instead shows a creamy texture with plenty of barrel vanilla." 98 Points, Extraordinary, Ultimate Recommendation 2016 Ultimate Spirits Challenge
