PRODUCT DESCRIPTION
Kiki & Juan is a Spanish wine project founded by John “Juan” House (of OVUM fame) and Kerin “Kiki” Auth Bembry. Based in Utiel-Requena, Valencia, Spain, the wines are made with low intervention, organic farming, and a focus on terroir and expression.
The 2023 Orange Wine is their skin-contact white wine (i.e. “orange wine”) that embraces texture, tannin, and intensity while retaining bright aromatics. It is made from 90% Macabeo and 10% Sauvignon Blanc, co-fermented. The Macabeo comes from ~40-year-old vines. The wine is made with 24 days of skin contact, and fermented with native (indigenous) yeasts. It is certified organic.
A vibrant orange hue—rich in saturation but still luminous—reflects its extended skin contact and texture.
The nose opens with dried apricot, tangerine, and flamed orange rind. There’s a sweet, honeyed note (acacia honey), and citrus blossom overtones.
The palate is medium- to full-bodied, with intense grip in the mid-palate, giving it a tannic and structured character for an “orange” style wine.
You’ll find flavors of crème de apricot, juicy citrus, subtle salted honey, and layered citrus pith.
Acidity plays a key role—enough brightness to prevent the richness from weighing it down.
The finish is powerful, resonant, and layered. The citrus and apricot fruit linger, with echoes of salted honey and subtle complexity.
This is a bold, textured orange wine meant to be enjoyed like a red or structured white—give it enough room to breathe, use a large wine glass, and serve slightly cool (not too cold).
