PRODUCT DESCRIPTION
Produced by Maison Louis Latour, one of Burgundy’s most respected and historic producers, this red comes from Marsannay, the northernmost village appellation in the Côte de Nuits. Marsannay’s unique position on the hillsides of the Hautes-Côtes de Nuits yields wines with fresh acidity, mineral vibrancy, and pure fruit expression that sit between the elegance of the Côte de Beaune and the structural depth of the Côte de Nuits.
The 2023 vintage reflects a classic approach to Pinot Noir from this region:
Hand-harvested fruit from well-exposed, limestone-rich parcels
Traditional fermentation with indigenous yeasts to preserve site expression
Elevage in French oak barrels — a measured proportion of new oak — to build texture without overshadowing the grape’s natural clarity
Louis Latour’s winemaking philosophy emphasizes terroir integrity and varietal purity. The result is a Marsannay with transparency of soil and climate, enriched by gentle oak influence and refined structure.
James Suckling – 91 Points
Suckling highlights the 2023 Marsannay Rouge for its juicy red fruit core and floral lift, praising notes of raspberry, sour cherry, and rose petal alongside a fine mineral streak and silky tannins.
Wine Enthusiast – 90–91 Points
Reviewers appreciate the balance of fruit and structure, noting crisp acidity and subtle earthy spice that give dimension to the mid-palate. The finish is noted for its clean, refreshing clarity.
Burghound – 90–92 Points
Critics emphasize the wine’s clear varietal expression and fine tension, remarking that the 2023 vintage shows bright fruit with underlying mineral energy — ideal for both early drinking and short-term cellaring.
Across professional commentary, the consensus situates this wine in the low-to-low-90s range — a polished, expressive Marsannay that underscores both vintage integrity and Louis Latour’s consistent quality.
Nose:
Inviting and lively, with red cherry, raspberry, and wild strawberry aromas accented by violet blossom and subtle spice. Gently lifted mineral notes give clarity and depth, while a hint of cedar and earth builds complexity.
Palate:
Medium-bodied and finely textured. Bright red fruit — cranberry, red currant, and tart cherry — is framed by fresh acidity and a mineral backbone. Soft notes of white pepper, clove, and baking spice round out the palate, supported by mild oak nuance and supple tannins.
Finish:
Crisp and persistent, with fruit echoes, saline minerality, and gentle spice that fade gracefully. The finish reflects both youthful energy and subtle structural depth.
Serve:
Slightly cool (58–62°F / 14–17°C) in a medium-bodied red wine glass to capture aromatics and balance.
Pair With:
• Roast chicken with thyme and lemon
• Mushroom risotto or porcini pasta
• Herb-crusted pork loin
• Soft cheeses like Brie or Gouda
