Stranahan’s Diamond Peak 2025 “Local Brewer’s Cask” Batch #4 Single Malt Whiskey is a bold, limited-edition American single malt that celebrates Colorado’s craft brewing culture. Rich, malt-driven, and layered with roasted chocolate, dark fruit, and spice, it blends the depth of beer-seasoned barrels with the signature smoothness of Stranahan’s whiskey. This collectible annual release offers a distinctive flavor profile that bridges the worlds of craft beer and American single malt whiskey.


Origins & Craftsmanship

Stranahan’s is widely regarded as a pioneer of American Single Malt Whiskey, founded in Denver, Colorado, and known for producing whiskey entirely from 100% malted barley distilled in small batches.

The Diamond Peak series is an annual release designed to explore the versatility of American single malt through unique finishing techniques. Each edition highlights a specific type of secondary cask.

The 2025 edition—Diamond Peak “Local Brewer’s Cask”—is finished in barrels previously used by Colorado craft breweries. The process works as follows:

  • Stranahan’s first ages its whiskey 4–6 years in new charred American oak barrels.
  • Those barrels are then sent to local breweries to age specialty beers such as coffee stouts, barleywines, Belgian ales, and other bold brews.
  • After the beer maturation, the barrels return to Stranahan’s and are refilled with American single malt whiskey for an additional 18 months to two years of finishing.

This “boomerang barrel” approach allows the whiskey to absorb roasted malt, chocolate, and toasted grain notes from the beer barrels while preserving the bright fruit and oak character of the original whiskey.

The final whiskey is bottled at 45% ABV (90 proof) using Rocky Mountain water from Eldorado Springs.

The 2025 release represents the fourth edition in the Diamond Peak series, continuing Stranahan’s tradition of collaborative finishing projects tied to Colorado’s brewing heritage.  


Tasting Profile

Nose:
Raisin, fig, chocolate-covered orange peel, espresso, roasted malt, and toasted oak.

Palate:
Chocolate malt, berry compote, cocoa, roasted grain, orange zest, hazelnut, and subtle spice layered over rich malt sweetness.

Finish:
Medium-long and warming with lingering malt richness, dark fruit, and gentle peppery spice.
