Louis Royer set up Louis Roque as an independent distiller in 1905 and began to specialise in plum brandy, for which he soon became renowned. Made from Gascony plums in southwest France, this excellent, dark brandy drinks much like Cognac, yet it has a unique fruitiness, mixed with an exotic spice flavor, that is memorable. Although a popular specialty spirit in France, it is still relatively rare in America.
