Origins & Craftsmanship
This high-end rum is produced in the Dominican Republic by Brugal & Co., founded in 1888. The 1888 Gran Reserva (also called “Doblemente Añejo”) undergoes a double ageing process: initially matured in American white-oak bourbon barrels, then finished in European (Spanish) sherry casks. The spirit is distilled twice from fermented molasses and then aged in both cask types to draw maximum complexity. The result is a masterfully-blended release designed for sipping neat.

• Nose: Deep amber-hued with rich aromas of vanilla bean and toffee, layered with dried and red fruits (raisins, dates, cherries), roasted coffee and subtle spice from the seasoned oak.

• Palate: Full-bodied yet smooth — cooked sugar cane/melassa sweetness up front transitions into caramel, dark chocolate, rich oak, peach or dried apricot, and aromatic spice (cinnamon, clove). The sherry-cask finish brings red-fruit depth and a dry edge.
