In 2019, industry experts blind-tasted 400 gins from 20 countries at the World Gin Awards — and Dingle Original Pot Still Gin came out on top, winning not just World's Best London Dry Gin, but the overall title of World's Best Gin. For a small craft distillery on the far southwest coast of Ireland, competing against gin brands from every corner of the globe, that's a genuinely extraordinary achievement, and it happened the same year the gin also earned 92 Points at the Ultimate Spirits Challenge and a Silver Medal at the WSWA Tasting Competition.
The gin is distilled at Dingle Distillery in County Kerry, in the distillery's own copper pot still, affectionately named "Oisín." While technically classified as a London Dry gin, Dingle's genuine distinctiveness comes from its deliberate, unusual botanical choices — alongside traditional juniper, angelica root, and coriander, the recipe incorporates rowan berry foraged from mountain ash trees, bog myrtle, hawthorn, heather, and fuchsia, all sourced directly from the Kerry landscape surrounding the distillery. Production follows a genuinely two-stage flavoring process: the botanicals macerate in spirit for a full 24 hours, and as the spirit distills, it passes through a flavor basket set in the neck of the still for additional complexity. The spirit is initially collected at 70% ABV before being cut to bottling strength — 42.5% ABV — using water drawn from the distillery's own well, 240 feet below ground. As founder Peter Mosley put it directly: "the uniquely Irish botanicals give a fabulously fresh, floral character that perfectly balances the traditional juniper. But, to be honest, you really have to taste it for yourself."
Independent reviewer GoodGinTentions awarded a genuinely enthusiastic 93/100, calling it "an elite gin, with strong classical notes, and some wonderful differences... a truly elite gin that does it all." A Master of Malt customer, tasting it directly at the distillery, found "a really nice floral and citrus character" that was "surprisingly easy to drink neat." The Gin Is In's independent tasting described the nose as "clean and classic... with lots of bright juniper, piney and warm," while The Daily Pour's more measured review noted, "while this gin never travels far from expectations, it does the trick in any number of gin-centric environments... not a complicated gin, but delivers all the right flavors for a great traditional cocktail." Whisky Center's detailed tasting found "crisp juniper" opening with "mineral-tinged angelica root nuances," "floral spice from fuchsia and heather," developing on the palate into "classic juniper" joined by "blackberry jam and chamomile," with "eucalyptus-like coolness and herbal complexity" closing on a "medium-dry finish" of returning mint and gentle warmth. This is a genuine, globally recognized craft gin — best served, per the distillery's own recommendation, with large ice cubes, a wedge of fresh orange, and a sprinkling of juniper berries.
Dingle Original Pot Still Gin is produced at Dingle Distillery, founded in 2012 by Oliver Hughes, Liam LaHart, and Peter Mosley — the same three founders behind the Porterhouse Brewing Company, pioneers of Irish craft beer since 1996. The gin is distilled in the distillery's copper pot still, named "Oisín," using a carefully selected blend of botanicals that includes traditional juniper, angelica root, and coriander alongside genuinely local, foraged ingredients: rowan berry from mountain ash trees, bog myrtle, hawthorn, heather, fuchsia, and citrus peel, all sourced from the Kerry landscape surrounding the distillery.
Production follows a two-stage flavoring process: botanicals macerate in spirit for 24 hours, and during distillation, the spirit passes through a flavor basket set in the neck of the still, adding further complexity. Originally produced on a small swan-neck pot still, the gin's growing success led the distillery to switch to a larger still in 2018. The spirit is collected at 70% ABV, then cut to bottling strength with water drawn from the distillery's own well, 240 feet below ground, and chill-filtered prior to bottling. Every batch is produced in small runs of just 500 liters. In 2019, the gin won World's Best Gin and World's Best London Dry Gin at the World Gin Awards, following a blind tasting of 400 entrants from 20 countries, alongside 92 Points at the Ultimate Spirits Challenge and a Silver Medal at the WSWA Tasting Competition. Bottled at 42.5% ABV / 85 proof.

The Daily Pour / Bottle Raiders (extended independent review):
"Dingle Gin is rich in flavor with a classic angelica and juniper led nose, the palate veers a of directions, both classic (juniper) and contemporary (minty herbs and cool spice). While this gin never travels far from expectations, it does the trick in any number of gin-centric environments. Not a complicated gin but delivers all the right flavors for a great traditional cocktail."
Master of Malt community:
"Had the great pleasure of tasting this lovely gin at the distillery this summer while visiting Ireland. It has a really nice floral and citrus character and was surprisingly easy to drink neat!"
Peter Mosley, Director & Founder, Dingle Distillery:
"The uniquely Irish botanicals give a fabulously fresh, floral character that perfectly balances the traditional juniper. But, to be honest, you really have to taste it for yourself."
Nose
Crisp juniper opens, joined by mineral-tinged angelica root, floral fuchsia and heather, and a hint of cooling mint. A heady bouquet of lemon, glacé cherry, and light juniper adds further brightness.
Palate
Classic juniper leads, joined by subtle fruit notes of blackberry jam and chamomile. A wave of mint lifts the flavors before a peppery blend of coriander and cubeb pepper unfolds, with eucalyptus-like coolness adding herbal complexity throughout. Perfumed and peppery notes of Earl Grey, bergamot, and citrus oil round out the profile.
Finish
Medium-dry, with mint and herbal hints returning alongside a gentle warm glow. Earthy, dry, and persistent botanicals close out the experience, letting the flavors linger without becoming heavy.
