PRODUCT DESCRIPTION
The Seña 2020 from Aconcagua Valley is a masterful display of Chilean ultra-premium wine: refined yet powerful, with intense dark fruit, polished tannins and impressive structure. It strikes a compelling balance between ripe richness and finesse, making it well suited for both near-term enjoyment and medium-term cellaring.
Produced by the estate founded through a partnership of Eduardo Chadwick and Robert Mondavi, Seña is located in the Aconcagua Valley, Chile—an appellation known for its dry Mediterranean-coastal climate and dramatic soil profiles. The 2020 vintage is a blend of 53% Cabernet Sauvignon, 25% Malbec, 15% Carménère and 7% Petit Verdot, harvested early (second week of March) then matured for 22 months in French oak barrels (78% new) and large foudres, reflecting high-end craftsmanship. The vineyard is managed according to biodynamic principles, enabling purity and precision in the fruit expression.
Wine critic James Suckling awarded the Seña 2020 98 points, describing it as “complex, with savory, spicy character, showing tobacco, salted plums, olives, black cherries, cassis and a hint of white pepper on the nose… tight, extremely fine-grained tannins… long, bright and still elegant.”
Renowned reviewer Luis Gutiérrez of The Wine Advocate scored it 97 points, noting its “intensity and complexity…and polished tannins with very integrated oak after 22 months; a wine with structure, colour, stuffing and acidity to develop nicely in bottle.”
Tasting editor Georgina Hindle in Decanter rated it 95 points, commenting: “Beautiful fruit expression… chalky, creamy texture underpinned by lifted acidity… bold and clearly powerful, with depth of ripe blackcurrants, plums and raspberries alongside freshly-cut herbs and sweet spices.”
Nose: Deep ruby with a purple rim. Aromas of black cherries, blackcurrant (cassis), salted plums, violet-petal floral top notes, underlied by touches of tobacco, olive brine, rosemary and subtle balsamic spice.
Palate: Medium-to-full body. Plush but precise dark fruit—blackberries, dark plums—led by cassis and ripe cherries. Followed by cedar, dark chocolate, anise-leaf and fine grain tannins. Acidity remains fresh, giving lift and tension.
Finish: Long and lingering. The fruit tapers into refined oak spice, subtle licorice, white pepper and a mineral-chalk texture that carries the wine to its close.
