he Réflexion R.019 Brut from Champagne Lallier is a stunning example of multi-vintage finesse, marrying the vibrant freshness of the 2019 harvest with understated depth and elegance. It’s versatile enough for both celebration and quiet enjoyment, both as an aperitif and alongside elegant cuisine.
Hailing from the village of Aÿ in the Champagne region of France, this cuvée is largely based on the 2019 vintage, which contributes approximately 88 % of the final blend. The remaining 12 % is drawn from reserve wines of prior years, providing maturity and balance. The grape composition is dominated by Pinot Noir (~55 %) with Chardonnay (~45 %). The wine is aged on its fine lees to build creamy texture and complexity, and finished with a moderate dosage to maintain vibrancy.
Wine critic Jamie Goode awarded the R.019 a score of 92/100, praising its “pure fruit, vibrant citrus and superb clarity… an impressively balanced young Champagne that combines freshness and depth.”
A detailed tasting note from a specialty retailer described the blend as having “fruit-driven aromas of lemon and tangerine, white-peach and green-apple, followed by a fine mousse, expressive red-berry hint and persistent saline finish.”
Industry commentary notes that this release captures 2019’s intense fruit character while balancing it with the house’s hallmark precision, making the R.019 “a fine bridge between youthful energy and subtle ageing.”
Nose: Pale gold with jade reflections. Aromas of lemon zest, tangerine peel, white-peach, green apple and gentle brioche, complemented by a whisper of almond and chalky minerality.
Palate: Fresh and focused. Crisp citrus (grapefruit, lime) meets orchard-fruit tones and a faint vein of red-berry brightness. The texture is silky, supported by fine acidity and chalky mineral notes that reflect the terroir.
Finish: Long and subtly savoury. Flavours of citrus rind linger, joined by a soft salinity and just-there chalk dust. A touch of brioche returns on the tail, leaving a refined and persistent after-taste.
