PRODUCT DESCRIPTION
This 2021 Grand Cru from Christian Moreau’s domaine is a refined, mineral-driven expression of Chablis that combines clarity, precision and terroir intensity. With lingering salinity, elegantly spun white-fruit layers and a taut structure, it stands out as both immediate and long-term worthy.
Hailing from the famed “Les Clos” vineyard in Chablis (with a parcel designated “Clos des Hospices”), vines are primarily 45- to 75-years-old and rooted in the Kimmeridgian soils of the region. The estate converted to organic viticulture in 2013, and for this vintage roughly one-third of the wine was matured in barrel (around 10% new oak) and the remainder in stainless steel. The result is a wine of clear site identity: Chablis Grand Cru terroir, minimal oak imprint and bright minerality.
Renowned Burgundy specialist Jasper Morris awarded the wine 95 points, remarking that the wine delivers “class and charm, acidity really well integrated” and that though refined it still exhibits excellent persistence.
Wine critic Neal Martin of Vinous gave it 93-95 points, observing that it is “finely tuned with a fine bead of acidity, tensile and saline, excellent penetration and a compelling flinty finish.”
Analyst Allen Meadows (Burghound) reported a score of 92-95 points, noting “sleek, intense and ultra-fresh middle-weight plus flavors with excellent size, richness and power … this very promising effort is going to need at least a decade to realise its full potential.”
Nose: Pale straw with subtle green-tinge; aromas of white peach, apple blossom, oyster shell, chalk dust and a hint of honeysuckle.
Palate: Medium-to-full body with bright white-fruited core—pear, green apple—infused with dry slate, sea-spray saline and a cool citrus twist. Oak is discreet, letting the terroir shine through.
Finish: Long and vertical; persistent mineral drive, white stone, slight almond shell and residual citrus rind keep the clarity alive. Tension remains high and it promises further evolution.
