PRODUCT DESCRIPTION
This 2014 vintage of the Argonne Grand Cru from Henri Giraud is a thrilling expression of Champagne—polished yet intense, with remarkable depth and elegance. It offers both vibrant freshness and developed complexity, making it a standout bottle for exceptional occasions or careful cellaring.
Origins & Craftsmanship
From the Grand Cru village of Aÿ in Champagne, France, this cuvée draws on the house’s deep vineyard heritage and its unique ageing philosophy. The “Argonne” bottling is notable for its marriage of fine terroir and oak-maturation: certain parcels are vinified and aged in 100 % new oak barrels made from trees in the Argonne forest, lending structure and nuance to the Champagne. Harvested in 2014, a vintage characterised by late ripening and steady maturation, the wine was matured on its lees for an extended period before disgorgement and release. This blend of Pinot Noir and Chardonnay (site-specific) reflects both richness and finesse.
Tasting Profile
Nose: Elegant and layered—aromas of baked golden apple, apricot kernel, lemon confit and white flowers mingle with toasted brioche, crushed almond and a faint trace of sage and mineral flint.
Palate: Medium-to-full body with superb tension. Flavours of ripe orchard fruit, sun-drenched pear and apricot transition into marzipan, brown-butter pastry and subtle spice (cardamom, clove). The oak component gives a whisper of vanilla and light toasty wood, while fine acidity keeps the palate alive and precise.
Finish: Long and compelling—lingering notes of crystallised citrus peel, almond shell, gentle oak tannin and saline mineral after-taste. The combination of depth and lift makes it both serious and graceful.
