PRODUCT DESCRIPTION
G4 is the tequila of the Camarena family, four generations of tequila makers in Los Altos de Jalisco since 1937, the family behind El Tesoro and Tapatío. Felipe Camarena built El Pandillo (NOM 1579) in Jesús María with his sons Luis Felipe and Alan in 2011 to make additive-free tequila his way: estate agave, slow-roasted for about 22 hours in stone ovens, crushed by a handmade metal tahona he calls “Felipestein,” fermented in open air with the family’s yeast, and double distilled in copper pot stills.
The Clásico Blanco is a limited, throwback release, with a label that revives the original 2012 G4 design. It’s built from 90% of G4’s signature Blanco, blended with 10% fiber-fermented tequila, and it uses agave from fully mature, 8-year-old Blue Weber plants, which brings extra sweetness and depth, and recalls G4’s sought-after “XM” edition. The small portion of fiber-fermented juice contributes “vegetal tones, savory depth, and textural nuance.” The production follows the usual G4 methods: stone-oven cooking, mechanical tahona extraction, a 50/50 blend of spring water and collected rainwater, open-air fermentation, and double distillation in copper pot stills. Additive-free, 40% ABV (80 proof), with only 2,016 cases produced.
Tasting descriptions are consistent about a clean, crisp, agave-forward blanco with a bit more weight than the standard bottling, though they emphasize different notes. One set describes a nose of “roasted agave, citrus rind, and subtle earthiness,” a palate of “green pepper, herbal spice, lime peel, and brined olives,” a mouthfeel “slightly richer than standard blanco, thanks to fiber fermentation,” and a finish that is “long, peppery, and dry with a pronounced agave core.” Another finds “cooked agave sweetness, ripe tropical fruit, subtle minerality, and a gentle herbal complexity.” Sip Sip Olé gave it 5 out of 5, calling it “clean and crisp, with bright citrus and bold cooked agave,” with “no burn, no spice, no aggressive pepper notes” and noting that “the fiber-fermented portion adds a subtle weight and softness that makes this feel richer than your standard blanco but never heavy.” Where tasters disagree is on pepper and brine, and that likely reflects how the tequila opens with time in the glass.
It’s a blanco for collectors and for fans of the standard G4 who want more depth. Enjoy it neat in a fluted glass or copita, or with a drop of water to open up the earthy notes, or use it in a high-end Margarita or Paloma. Once the 2,016 cases are gone, it’s gone.
G4 Tequila Clásico Blanco is produced at El Pandillo Distillery (NOM 1579) in Jesús María, Los Altos de Jalisco, Mexico, by master distiller Felipe Camarena. It’s a blend of 90% G4 Blanco and 10% fiber-fermented tequila, from 8-year-old Blue Weber agave, stone-oven roasted, tahona-crushed, fermented in open air with a 50/50 blend of spring water and rainwater, and double distilled in copper pot stills. Additive-free. Bottled at 40% ABV / 80 proof, 750ml. A limited release of 2,016 cases.
