PRODUCT DESCRIPTION
Glenrothes has built its entire reputation on sherry — the distillery's core age-stated range, from the 15-Year to the 18-Year to the Maker's Cut, has always leaned on Spanish oak, sherry-seasoned casks as the defining backbone of the house style. This 14-Year-Old marks a genuine departure from that tradition: matured exclusively in first-fill ex-bourbon casks, with no sherry influence at all, it represents Glenrothes' lighter, sweeter, more American-oak-driven side, given, for the first time in an age-stated core release, real room to stand entirely on its own.
Glenrothes traces its history to 1879, distilling beside the Burn of Rothes in the heart of Speyside — a distillery whose spirit has long played a foundational role in blended Scotch whiskies like Cutty Sark and The Famous Grouse, alongside its own celebrated single malt range. The Glenrothes Distillery itself is owned by Edrington, while the Glenrothes single malt brand belongs to Berry Bros. & Rudd, the historic St. James's wine merchant that's represented the brand since 1987. Bottled entirely in natural colour, with no artificial tint added, this 14-Year expression is presented at 45.7% ABV — a genuinely robust strength for a Glenrothes release, sitting comfortably above the 40% ABV used for the brand's simpler bourbon-cask expressions.
The distillery's own character note for this release describes "sweet coconut with vanilla and fresh pear" — a genuinely inviting, dessert-leaning profile that reflects exactly what fourteen years in first-fill American oak alone can build: soft vanilla sweetness, coconut richness, and bright, clean orchard fruit, entirely free of the darker dried-fruit and sherry-driven character that typically defines Glenrothes' better-known age statements. This is a genuinely new, still-emerging release, and independent critic reviews haven't caught up to it yet — but the character note alone, straight from the distillery, paints a clear picture of an approachable, sweetly fruity, coconut-and-vanilla-forward Speyside malt, built for drinkers who want Glenrothes' quality without its usual sherry intensity.
The Glenrothes Distillery was established in 1879, located beside the Burn of Rothes in Speyside, Scotland. The distillery is owned by Edrington, while the Glenrothes single malt brand itself is owned by Berry Bros. & Rudd, the historic London wine merchant that has served as the brand's agent since 1987. Glenrothes spirit plays a significant role in blended Scotch whiskies including Cutty Sark and The Famous Grouse, alongside the distillery's own acclaimed single malt range.
This 14-Year-Old expression is matured exclusively in first-fill ex-bourbon casks — a genuine departure from Glenrothes' typical sherry-forward core range, which usually relies on Spanish oak, sherry-seasoned casks as its defining maturation approach. Bottled in natural colour, with no added tint, at 45.7% ABV, 700ml.
No independent critic reviews are confirmed for this product at this time — a genuinely new addition to Glenrothes' range.
