Akashi 5 Years Old Single Malt Whisky Sake Cask Finish

Aged five years in sake Casks. 50% ABV

This single malt whisky was aged in an American oak cask that previously held a concentrated and sweet style of sake know as Kijoshu. This rich sake is able to impart true nuance to Akashi’s 3-year-old single malt, resulting in a nose of walnut & vanilla with just a hint of peat. A palate of bittersweet orange and chocolate-covered banana finishes with drying notes of black tea and leather. 50% ABV.

The White Oak distillery in the town of Akashi is supposedly the oldest distillery in Japanese (four years older than Yamazaki, they say).  The Eigashima Company (current owner of the distillery) didn’t release their first single malt until 2007. The malt comes from Scotland, and this distillery only operates for two months out of every year.
