PRODUCT DESCRIPTION
Normandin-Mercier Pineau des Charentes Blanc is a graceful, fruit-driven fortified wine that bridges the freshness of ripe grapes with the elegance of Cognac maturation. Silky and inviting, it balances sweet-fruit vibrancy and gentle oak-driven depth — making it a superb aperitif or dessert drink, perfect chilled for relaxed sipping or refined entertaining.
Produced in the Cognac region of western France, this Pineau begins with high-quality white-grape must, drawn primarily from the classic Ugni Blanc (and other traditional local varieties). To that fresh grape must is added carefully aged Cognac eau-de-vie from the same estate, honoring the rules of the appellation.
After blending, the mixture is aged for several years in oak casks — a process that softens the raw grape character, integrates the Cognac influence, and builds structure and nuance. This maturation yields the signature balance of fresh fruit brightness and gentle oxidative complexity that defines top-tier Pineau des Charentes.
Among wine and spirits connoisseurs, Normandin-Mercier’s Blanc Pineau is frequently praised for:
Its vivid fruit character paired with smooth Cognac depth, avoiding cloying sweetness.
A refined texture and pleasant richness unusual in many fortified wines.
Versatility — stylish enough for aperitif service, yet layered enough to accompany desserts or salads.
A clean natural sweetness and bright acidity balance, making it accessible to newcomers and rewarding for experienced drinkers.
For many reviewers and importers, this Pineau represents an elegant expression of its category — neither heavy nor overly sweet, but lively, refined, and deeply pleasurable chilled.
Nose:
Bright aromas of peach and apricot, fresh white grape, and honeydew melon, complemented by subtle floral notes — honeysuckle or orange blossom — and a soft honey-nectar sweetness. Faint almond and vanilla from the barrel aging emerge on the edges.
Palate:
Silky and medium-bodied. Immediately fruit-forward: white peach, pear, and apricot compote mingle with golden raisin and light citrus peel. Beneath that, gentle honeyed sweetness unfolds, followed by soft almond, a hint of vanilla, and a delicate nutty richness. A whisper of oak seasoning adds depth without dominating.
Finish:
Smooth, refreshing, and lingering. Sweet fruit, light honey, and a subtle citrus-zest edge fade slowly into a clean, slightly nutty finish with a touch of soft oak warmth. Balanced, elegant, and inviting another sip.
