PRODUCT DESCRIPTION

One hundred and twenty-five years. That is how long it took to arrive at this bottle — from John Alexander Dewar's decision in 1898 to build his first and only distillery at the foot of Perthshire's Ben Lawers, beside thePitilie Burn whose gold-bearing watersgave the distillery its identity, tothe 2023 release of the mostspecifically celebratory and the mostrichly sherried expression Aberfeldyhas ever produced for its ownanniversary. The distillery sits, asthe brand describes it, wherePerthshire's tallest mountain, deepestloch, and longest glen meet —historically and geographically at theheart of Scotland. John Dewar built itthere with no expense spared, using allthe latest advancements, with theambition to craft a gold standardsingle malt. The 25 Year Old 125thAnniversary Sherry Cask is the clearestand the most generous statement thathis ambition was justified.

The whiskyspent over two decades in refillhogsheads and refill butts — thepatient, slow-building primarymaturation that gives Aberfeldy'sHighland honey, wild strawberry, andripe peach character the full quartercentury it needs to develop fully. Then, for over a year, it rested infirst-fill Oloroso sherry casks fromJerez, Spain — the densest, darkest, and most flavor-imparting sherry casktype available, whose interior surfacesare saturated with the residue ofOloroso sherry production and whosecontribution to the spirit that entersthem is transformative rather thanmerely additive. Over a year infirst-fill Oloroso. On top of 25 yearsof Highland maturation. At 46% — a fullsix ABV points above the 21 Year Old's40%, the decision that multiplereviewers noted as making all thedifference.

Whisky Advocate awarded 94Points, finding a whisky that "gives100%": black treacle, walnut, prune, malt loaf, and gingerbread on the nose, topped with cinnamon, dark chocolate, clove, peppercorn, jellied blackberry, and honey. On the palate: blueberry, black cherry, red apple, currants, sultana, baked orange, vanilla essence, red chile, pecan pie, and molasses withcoffee notes. A "long mouth-coatingfinish of chocolate and soft spices."WhiskyNotes called it "one of the bestdistillery bottlings I've had — reallynot shy, showing a proper sherryinfluence." Honeycomb, driedwildflowers, marmalade, beeswax, damson, clove, candied ginger, coldcoffee, raisins, and herbal notesrounding out a 25-yearHighland single malt that earnsthe most important birthdayit has ever celebrated.

Origins & Craftsmanship

Aberfeldy Distillery was founded in 1898by John Alexander Dewar — thepatriarch of the Dewar whiskydynasty whose ambition to craft a "goldstandard single malt" with "noexpense spared" gave thedistillery both itsfounding philosophy and its nickname. The Pitilie Burn, whose water passesalluvial gold deposits on its way tothe distillery, made "The Golden Dram"the most specifically earned and themost historically rooted identity inthe Highland single malt category. Thedistillery is owned today by John Dewar& Sons, a subsidiary of Bacardi, underMalt Master Stephanie Macleod, who hasearned Aberfeldy more than 200 GoldMedals from the world's top spiritscompetitions across her tenure andmaintained the Royal Warrant heldthroughout the entirety of QueenElizabeth II's 70-year reign.

The125th Anniversary release was conceivedspecifically to mark the 2023centenary-plus-a-quarter with the mostambitious and most specificallysherry-forward limited expression thedistillery had produced for its owncelebration. The production approach isprecise in its commitment: over twodecades of primary maturation in refillhogsheads and refill butts — thepatient, oak-conservative approach thatbuilds Aberfeldy's natural honey, cereal, and dried fruit characterwithout wood domination — followed by afinishing period of over one year infirst-fill Oloroso sherry casks sourcedfrom Jerez, Spain. First-fill Olorosois the most intensely flavor-impartingsherry cask classification available: abarrel that has held Oloroso sherryexactly once and has never been usedfor any other purpose, whoseinterior surfaces carry the full, undiluted depth of Oloroso's dark,dried-fruit, walnut, and darkchocolate character. The year-plusfinishing period allowed the25-year-old spirit to absorb andintegrate that characterfully rather than simplyreceiving a surface-level impressionfrom a shorter finish.

Bottledat 46% ABV — higher than anyexpression in the standard Aberfeldycore range — the 125thAnniversary was released as agenuinely limited edition, available in selected marketsglobally, never to be repeated in thisspecific form.
