PRODUCT DESCRIPTION
This is a milestone for Ardnamurchan: the distillery’s first core 10 Year Old single malt, released ten years after its first spirit ran off the stills. Ardnamurchan sits on the remote west coast of the Scottish Highlands, and it has built a reputation for characterful, coastal single malts made with sustainable practices and traditional methods. Until now, its range was largely made of young, no-age-statement releases and single casks, so the AD/10 is an important step: an “honest, accessible single malt that captures the spirit of Scotland’s remote west coast.”
The AD/10 is made from a balanced mix of peated and unpeated Ardnamurchan spirit, with a lightly to medium peated profile, and matured in 98% bourbon barrels with 2% sherry hogshead, from 2014 and 2015 distillations. It is bottled at 46.8% ABV, non-chill filtered, with natural colour. A total of 16,380 bottles were released worldwide in this first batch, and the distillery plans to release it annually, with volumes increasing as stock becomes available.
The official nose is “coconut, oat biscuits and zesty orange peel” mingling “with salty sea air, bonfire embers and delicate notes of strawberry laces and mint.” The palate has “a touch of coastal brine and gentle peat smoke” balanced by “honey, malt and oak,” and another description of the palate finds it “creamy, custard creams, vanilla wafer, brine, and earthy smoke.” The finish is a “comforting, warming close.” Words of Whisky’s review found a “fatty, waxy mouthfeel,” with “a similar mixture of cereals, restrained notes of earthy smoke, a good pinch of salt and fruits,” including “nectarines, apricots,” plus “green olives, anchovies and vanilla custard,” and concluded: “Already this is one of the better 10-year-old core range releases out there.” Whiskybase community ratings give it scores in the mid-to-high 80s for nose, palate, and finish, with one reviewer finding “vanilla, caramel, pear, a touch of hay,” “lovely intensity,” and a “very pleasant finish, albeit somewhat short.” It’s a clean, fruity, lightly smoky, salty Highland malt, and an accessible place to start with Ardnamurchan.
Ardnamurchan AD/10 Year Old 2025 Release is produced at Ardnamurchan Distillery on the west coast of the Scottish Highlands. Non-chill filtered, natural colour. Bottled at 46.8% ABV, 700ml. 16,380 bottles in the first release.

Words of Whisky (extended independent review):
“Nose: Hints of honeyed porridge, but I imagine it being made from peat infused oats. It’s an earthy kind of smoke. Sprinkled on top are slices of banana, some orange parts and pineapple. There’s a certain waxiness too, as well as some hints of sourdough and straw. Delicious. Taste: Fatty, waxy mouthfeel. There’s a similar mixture of cereals, restrained notes of earthy smoke, a good pinch of salt and fruits. Some nectarines, apricots and the like. Then some green olives, anchovies and vanilla custard as well. Already this is one of the better 10-year-old core range releases out there.”
Whiskybase community (user review):
“Nose: Vanilla, caramel, pear, a touch of hay and lychee. Taste: Pepper, vanilla, pear, and then a hint of burnt hay towards the end. Lovely intensity. Finish: Vanilla and pear notes remain consistently present, while the spice is now more subdued. A very pleasant finish, albeit somewhat short.”
Ardnamurchan (official tasting notes):
“Nose: Coconut, oat biscuits and zesty orange peel mingle with salty sea air, bonfire embers and delicate notes of strawberry laces and mint. Palate: A touch of coastal brine and gentle peat smoke bring balance, while honey, malt and oak add warmth and depth. Finish: A comforting, warming close that beautifully captures Ardnamurchan’s coastal soul.”
