PRODUCT DESCRIPTION
A striking expression from Speyside’s peated frontier, this 7-year-old single cask release from The GlenAllachie Distillery offers both boldness and finesse. Matured in an Oloroso sherry cask and bottled at cask strength, it delivers dramatic peat, rich dried fruit and deep oak character—designed for the enthusiast who values both rarity and flavour intensity.
Crafted at The GlenAllachie Distillery in Speyside, Scotland, the Meikle Tòir range is the peated arm of the house (peat content around 35–47 ppm) using mainland peat from St. Fergus. The spirit is produced via long fermentation (around 160 hours) to build depth of flavour, then matured in a specially selected single Oloroso sherry hogshead (again, cask number #11576 in this instance) for 7 years. It is bottled at cask strength, non-chill filtered and with natural colour, capturing the raw essence of the cask and the peated spirit.
Whisky journalist Eric Hasman described a Meikle Tòir single cask release as “complex and bold… strawberry, apple, walnut and orange peel on the nose; then cocoa, clove, charred oak and hardened walnut in the palate.”
Charles Steele of The Whiskey Wash called the range “a watershed moment for the distillery—dark straw in colour, notes of mulled wine, clove, walnut fudge brownie and lemon Danish pastry, leading into s’mores, dehydrated strawberry, toasted cumin and blood orange on the palate.”
A speciality whisky-news site noted the brand’s new single-cask bottlings “sold out almost instantly… the Oloroso hogshead shows tobacco, figs and orange on the nose; mocha, grilled honeycomb and smoked fruits on the palate.”
Nose: Rich amber-copper in the glass. Aromas of sun-dried figs, candied orange, honeyed tobacco leaf, dark plums, walnut shell and gentle peat smoke drift in.
Palate: Full and intense: roasted malt, dark chocolate, charred oak, maraschino cherry, toasted nuts, subtle rural smoke and a hint of espresso bitterness. The sherry cask brings complexity—dried fruit, spice and depth.
Finish: Long and warming — oak tannin, cinnamon and ginger spice, sea salt-kissed smoke, lingering dark fruit and a final whisper of charred peat.
