PRODUCT DESCRIPTION
Banhez has spent nearly two centuries building its reputation the same way — through a genuine cooperative of more than 35 families in San Miguel Ejutla, Oaxaca, all producing mezcal using the same earthen wood-fire ovens, horse- and donkey-pulled tahonas, and copper alembic stills their ancestors relied on. This collection brings together five of the cooperative's expressions in one set, giving you a genuine, structured tour through just how differently a single production philosophy can express itself depending on which agave, and which mezcalero, is behind the bottle — from an award-winning cocktail-friendly blend all the way to some of the rarest, most patient wild agave varieties in the entire category.
Banhez Mezcal Joven Espadín & Barril
The cooperative's flagship blend — 90% Espadín, 10% wild Barril — genuinely accessible and fruit-forward, with pineapple, banana, and a touch of green, vegetal complexity from the Barril. Winner of Double Gold and Best Mezcal at the 2017 San Francisco World Spirits Competition. The ideal entry point into the whole collection.
Banhez Mezcal Jabalí
Made from 100% wild Jabalí agave — a species genuinely notorious among mezcaleros for being difficult to work with, named for its spiny, boar-like growth habit. Citric and light-bodied, with lactose, wet stone, fermented fruit, and herbaceous conifer notes; a subtle, complex sipper.
Banhez Mezcal Mexicano
Built from 100% semi-wild Mexicano agave (Agave rhodacantha), a species taking six to fifteen years to reach maturity. Genuinely vegetal and savory, with fresh cut greens, roasted pepper, citrus, and campfire smoke — real batch-to-batch character from a small-lot, single-mezcalero production.
Banhez Mezcal Cuishe
A wild subspecies of Espadín, distinguished by its long, narrow leaves. Widely considered one of the standout single-agave releases in the entire Banhez range — tropical fruit, jasmine, cinnamon, guava, and honey, with genuine balance and complexity.
Banhez Mezcal Tepeztate
Made from wild Tepeztate agave, which takes 17 to 25 years to mature — one of the most patient and increasingly sought-after agave varieties in all of mezcal. Green pepper, green apple, citrus zest, and earthy mesquite smoke.
