Talisker x Parley “Glacial Edge” 45 Year Old Single Malt Scotch Whisky is one of the rarest and most ambitious releases ever produced by the Isle of Skye distillery. Created in collaboration with ocean-conservation organization Parley for the Oceans, this extraordinary whisky spent more than four decades maturing before being finished in experimental ice-fractured oak casks. The result is a profoundly complex coastal Scotch—layering Talisker’s signature maritime smoke and peppery spice with elegant citrus, dried fruit, and ancient oak depth. With only about 2,455 bottles produced worldwide, it stands as both a collector’s masterpiece and a showcase of innovative cask experimentation.

Origins & Craftsmanship

Talisker Distillery sits in Carbost on the Isle of Skye, producing maritime single malt whisky since 1830. The distillery’s location on Scotland’s rugged west coast contributes to its famous profile of sea spray, smoke, and peppery spice.

“Glacial Edge” represents the third and final release in Talisker’s Xpedition Oak series, a collection created with Parley for the Oceans that explores extreme environmental influences on oak maturation.

The whisky itself matured for more than 40 years in American oak casks before undergoing a highly unusual finishing process.

Key production elements include:

• Primary maturation: decades in American oak casks developing mature complexity.
• Experimental finishing: twelve heavily charred American oak casks were taken to Arctic conditions in Canada and exposed to temperatures near -45°C (-49°F) for about four days.
• The extreme cold fractured the wood fibers, increasing the cask’s surface area and exposing fresh oak layers for the whisky to interact with during finishing back in Scotland.

This unusual process was designed to enhance wood interaction and amplify flavor development without overwhelming the delicate character of a whisky that had already matured for decades.

The whisky is bottled at 49.8% ABV (99.6 proof), preserving the intensity and texture of this ultra-aged spirit.
