PRODUCT DESCRIPTION
This 2025 “La Mesa” single-estate reposado from Tequila Ocho offers a refined yet character-rich exploration of Jalisco highland agave. The subtle oak aging softly enhances vibrant agave and estate-specific terroir notes, making it outstanding for both neat sipping and refined cocktails.
Tequila Ocho is uniquely transparent about origin: each release identifies the precise field (“rancho”) and harvest year. The “La Mesa” estate sits on a high-altitude plateau in the Los Altos region of Jalisco, Mexico. The agave plants are hand-harvested at peak maturity, cooked in traditional ovens, fermented with wild yeast in open-air wooden vats, and twice-distilled in copper pot stills. As a reposado, this expression is rested in ex-American whiskey barrels for a moderate period (traditionally 8 weeks and 8 days for Ocho’s standard reposado), though the specific 2025 La Mesa edition may see slight variation. Bottled at 40% ABV, this release emphasizes the agave’s terroir while introducing gentle wood complexity.
Nose: Bright cooked agave opens the glass, accompanied by soft citrus (lemongrass and lime-zest), white pepper and a hint of vanilla or light caramel from barrel influence. Subtle herbaceous notes—mint or spearmint—and a clean mineral edge set the scene.
Palate: Smooth and lively. The agave essence remains central—sweet roasted piña followed by orchard fruit (white peach or pear). Mid-palate reveals gentle oak spice, light toffee and a touch of peppery warmth. The La Mesa terroir brings a slight chalky minerality and subtle citrus peel brightness.
Finish: Clean and persistent with a refined dryness. The finish leaves taste of agave-flesh sweetness, vanilla-bean glow, faint oak tannin and a lingering citrus rind or herbal note—inviting another sip.
