Akashi 5 Year Old Sherry Cask Single Malt is a rich, full-bodied Japanese whisky that beautifully balances the influence of sherry casks with the delicate style of White Oak Distillery. Dark fruit, cocoa, and nutty spice unfold with refined sweetness and depth, offering a luxurious yet lively dram.
Distilled by Eigashima Shuzo at the White Oak Distillery in Hyōgo Prefecture, Japan, this limited single malt is made from 100% malted barley, lightly peated for nuance. It’s aged for five years entirely in sherry casks—initially in Pedro Ximénez and finished in Oloroso—creating layers of richness and complexity. Bottled at 50% ABV without chill filtration or added color, it embodies the distillery’s meticulous small-batch craftsmanship and the subtle influence of coastal aging conditions overlooking the Seto Inland Sea.
Nose: Deep and fragrant, with raisin, dried apricot, walnut, and cocoa powder accented by orange peel and polished oak.
Palate: Velvety and powerful—dark fruit compote, salted caramel, and chocolate fudge balanced by toasted spice, nutmeg, and gentle pepper.
Finish: Long and warming with lingering notes of fig, tobacco, and rich sherry sweetness wrapped in soft oak tannin.
