PRODUCT DESCRIPTION
A majestic and artful expression from The Macallan, Art is the Flower is a rich, deeply coloured single malt that merges sherried intensity with floral elegance. It stands as a collector-worthy statement piece — both visually and sensorially — that invites admiration and careful contemplation.
Origins & Craftsmanship
This limited-edition release forms part of The Macallan’s “Tree of Life” collection, created in collaboration with the Charles Rennie Mackintosh Society and inspired by Mackintosh’s 1902 stained-glass panel “The Spirit of the Rose”. The whiskies used were matured exclusively in first- and second-fill European oak casks seasoned with sherry from Jerez, Spain, thereby imparting the deep mahogany hue and rich flavour profile. Bottled at 50.4% ABV, this non-age-statement single malt reflects The Macallan’s mastery of mature sherry-oak cask-selection and art-inspired presentation.
Critics Reviews
The Macallan’s own release notes highlight “raisins and fig, polished oak, cherry, almonds, orange and treacle” on the nose, followed by “sweet oak, vanilla, ginger, apple and a whisper of tea-leaf” on the palate.
Food & Wine describes the edition as “layers of dried fruit, sweet sticky dates and figs… the sherry-seasoned European oak delivers a whisky of rich depth and texture.”
Independent review summaries note its “long, rich, full finish” and regard it as “floral yet powerful, with a presence that evokes both artistry and maturity”.
Tasting Profile
Nose: Deep mahogany in colour, with aromas of raisin, fig, dark cherry, polished oak, almond skin, tangy orange peel and treacle sweetness.
Palate: Full-bodied and textured — smooth vanilla and sweet oak open into warming ginger and sweet apple, underpinned by soft tea-leaf and gentle spice.
Finish: Long, rich and evolving — the floral core gives way to lingering honey-edged oak, subtle dried herbs and refined sweetness.

"Macallan is launching a new limited-edition duo of Speyside single malts honoring the legacy of Scottish artist Charles Rennie Mackintosh, and drawing inspiration from his 1902 stained glass panel “The Spirit of the Rose.” Similar to the non-age statement whisky and high age-stated release of Macallan Time: Space in 2024, the new duo comprises Art is the Flower, a non-age statement expression matured in sherry-seasoned European oak casks, and The Tree of Life, a 46 year old with a peated flavor profile distilled in 1979 and drawn from two sherry seasoned casks. Tree of Life is bottled in a Lalique decanter encased in a metal frame inspired by Mackintosh’s designs." Whisky Advocate
