This is an unusual bottling as most red wine cask whiskies are just finishes, whereas this particular number was fully aged in European oak casks that previously held red wine from Bordeaux. A limited-edition Ledaig single malt from Tobermory distillery has aromas of eucalyptus oil, smoked fudge and carbolic soap fill the nose, complemented by notes of burning heather, pine cones, grape skins, melon and wood-smoked meats on the palate that develop into honeysuckle, heather, lime pastilles and lingering wisps of smoke in the finish.
Ledaig is the name for peated whisky distilled at Tobermory on the Isle of Mull. It's not pronounced 'lead ayg' or 'le daig' but something a bit like 'led chig' but with a very soft 'd'.
