PRODUCT DESCRIPTION
The 2022 Ciampagnis Chardonnay from Vie di Romans is a compelling balance of richness and tension—lush orchard fruit and warm spice framed by fresh acidity and minerality. It shows expressive character while remaining precise and lively.
Vie di Romans is a Friulian estate committed to emphasizing vineyard identity. The Ciampagnis cru is one of the named vineyard parcels the estate highlights, under the broader Friuli Isonzo DOC appellation.
In 2022, the wine was aged on lees for approximately nine months in barrique to gain texture and secondary complexity, while preserving freshness and varietal clarity. (Some sources also note extended aging on lees in wood.)
Vie di Romans releases its wines only after some cellar-ageing to allow aromatics and texture to integrate, and the 2022 vintage is seen as ambitious for its depth and layered character.
Nose: Golden apple, pear, and citrus (lemongrass, yuzu) mingle with toasted coconut, gentle vanilla, and a whisper of brioche. Hints of ginger and nutmeg spice mingle with subtle herbaceous notes—bay leaf or sage—in the background.
Palate: Medium-to-full body with a silky texture. Ripe orchard and stone fruits (pear, nectarine) emerge first, then citrus peel, white peach, and a touch of apricot. The oak influence is respectful—adding nuance of toast, almond, and baking spice without dominating. A steely mineral streak runs beneath, offering tension.
Finish: Long and persistent. Fruit tapers to juicy citrus and orchard skin, while savory tones (herbal, saline) linger. A slight chalkiness or wet-stone impression frames the close, leaving a refined but lasting impression.
