The gold bottle is the whole point. Bottega’s Il Vino dei Poeti Gold is the shimmering, metallic gold-bottled Prosecco that has become one of the most recognizable sparkling wines in the world, a go-to for gifts, parties, and celebrations. It’s the “upscale marketed” sibling of Bottega’s standard Il Vino dei Poeti, and it was the second best-selling wine in travel retail in 2017, according to IWSR rankings. A reviewer who tasted it put the strategy plainly: “Bling bottle makes it attractive as a gift item.”
The wine inside is a Prosecco Treviso Brut, made entirely from Glera grown in the province of Treviso. The grapes are carefully harvested, vinified in white, and the second fermentation takes place in pressurized tanks by the Charmat method for about 40 days at a controlled 14-15°C, which preserves the aromatic freshness and delicate perlage. It’s bottled at 11% ABV. The tasting notes describe “a pale straw yellow colour with greenish highlights and a fine, continuous perlage,” a nose that “reveals aromas of apple and pear, with floral notes of acacia and lily of the valley,” a palate that is “harmonious, with a pleasant acidity that supports the savoriness,” and “a fresh finish, with a return of fruity notes.”
An honest word about the wine, since reviewers are candid: it’s a good, widely appealing Prosecco rather than a connoisseur’s bottle. WineAlign’s critics average 87 points (89 for the 2021, 87 for the 2023), with notes such as “a soft and creamy, fruity, well-rounded and widely appealing bottling” and “a sweetish, affable and frothy Prosecco that has proven widely appealing.” Gus Clemens found “bright pale straw color; green apple, pear, citrus, white flowers on the nose; green apple, pear, melon, lemon-lime on the palate,” calling it “fresh, fruity, youthful,” and “a good, standard Prosecco,” adding that “you pay a premium for the bottle more than the wine.” Another critic called it “a fairly ordinary yet correct prosecco in a gorgeous gold bottle for which you pay a premium price,” and CellarTracker’s community averages about 84 points.
So the pitch is simple: it’s an easy, friendly, fruit-forward Prosecco in a bottle that makes an immediate impression. It works as an aperitif, in a spritz or a Bellini, and with appetizers, pasta, fish, white meats, and soft cheeses. Serve it well chilled, in large glasses to let the aromas open.

Gus Clemens on Wine (2019 vintage):
“Bright pale straw color; green apple, pear, citrus, white flowers on the nose; green apple, pear, melon, lemon-lime on the palate. Brut; light body; lively acidity. Delicate bubbles. Plenty of ripe glera fruit gives this illusion of sweetness... Bling bottle makes it attractive as a gift item... While this is a good, standard prosecco, you pay a premium for the bottle more than the wine. Perfect as an aperitif.”
