PRODUCT DESCRIPTION

“Il Vino dei Poeti,” “the wine of the poets,” is Bottega’s classic Prosecco, the one in the standard bottle, as opposed to the gold-bottled Prosecco Gold in the same collection. It’s made entirely from Glera grown in the hilly area of the province of Treviso, in the heart of Prosecco country, harvested from mid-September and vinified in white. The second fermentation takes place in pressurized stainless steel tanks at a controlled 14-15°C, using the Charmat (Martinotti) method, to preserve the freshness and delicate aromatics of the grape. It’s a Brut, bottled at 11% ABV.

The producer describes a wine that’s “straw yellow with gold reflexes, fine and persistent perlage,” with a bouquet that is “fruity (apple, white peach, citrus fruits) and delicate floral (acacia, wisteria),” and a palate that is “fresh, delicate, balanced, with an harmonious blend of acidity and softness.”

Critics have rated it consistently well for an everyday Prosecco. James Suckling scored it 90: “Subtle and fruity with sliced strawberries and lemons. Some apples, too. Medium to full body, bright acidity and a fresh and clean finish.” Wine Enthusiast’s Jeff Porter scored it 89 (October 2024): “Fresh, light, and lifted, this Prosecco offers aromas of green apple, lemon peel, flint, and lemon blossom. The palate is crisp, balancing citrus and orchard-fruit flavors, leading to a flinty and vibrant finish.” An importer’s notes call it “crisp and dry, with a balanced acidity, leaving a pleasantly smooth finish.”

It’s an easy, versatile Prosecco: “excellent as an aperitif and in cocktails,” and “an ideal all-around wine,” in the producer’s words. Pour it chilled (4-5°C) on its own, in an Aperol Spritz, a Bellini, or a mimosa, or serve it with appetizers, pasta and risotto, fish, white meats, vegetables, and pizza. It’s best enjoyed young and fresh.
