Bulleit Mesquite Smoked Malt Bourbon Whiskey Limited Release is a bold experimental expression that takes the classic Bulleit profile in an entirely new direction. Instead of the brand’s signature high-rye mash bill, this bourbon is built around mesquite-smoked malted barley, giving it a subtle barbecue-like smokiness layered over sweet corn richness and oak spice. The result is a uniquely American whiskey—familiar bourbon sweetness intertwined with gentle smoke, caramel, and vanilla—making it one of the most innovative releases in Bulleit’s modern lineup.
Origins & Craftsmanship
The Bulleit brand, now owned by Diageo, is produced at the Bulleit Distilling Company and is traditionally known for its high-rye bourbon mash bill. Bulleit Frontier Whiskey has long built its identity around spicy rye character—but this limited release intentionally breaks that tradition.
For the Mesquite Smoked Malt Limited Release, Bulleit’s innovation team redesigned the mash bill entirely:
65% corn
30% mesquite-smoked malted barley
5% malted barley
During malting, a portion of the barley is smoked over mesquite wood, infusing the grain itself with aromatic smoke before fermentation and distillation. This approach integrates smoky character directly into the whiskey rather than adding flavor later, creating a natural savory depth reminiscent of wood-fired barbecue.
The whiskey was distilled in November 2018, aged more than six years in new charred American oak barrels, and bottled at 93 proof (46.5% ABV).
Released nationwide beginning March 2026, the whiskey carries a suggested retail price of about $49.99 and was produced as a one-time limited release within the brand’s experimental innovation series.
