PRODUCT DESCRIPTION

"Wild Fire Rebels" is a genuinely extreme single-barrel release from Rare Character's ongoing revival of Brook Hill — a Kentucky whiskey name with real historical weight, originally crafted by Joseph L. Friedman, a figure from the late 19th-century pioneer Kentucky whiskey movement whose Brook Hill brand achieved the genuinely rare distinction of maintaining legal production straight through Prohibition. This particular cask, Barrel No. C653, carries a full 10 years of maturation and is drawn exclusively from that single barrel — bottled uncut and unfiltered, with nothing removed and nothing added, at a genuinely staggering 149.72 proof (74.86% ABV).

That number puts Barrel C653 firmly within what collectors informally call "hazmat" proof territory — strong enough that it can't legally be flown on a commercial aircraft — and it's exactly the kind of extreme, one-of-one release serious American whiskey collectors specifically seek out. A decade of maturation has given this rye genuine mature-oak depth layered onto concentrated, spice-forward rye character, resulting in a whiskey built around caramelized sweetness, baking spice, vanilla, dark fruit, and deeply seasoned oak.

The official tasting notes describe "bold rye spice, caramelized sugar, vanilla, mature oak, cinnamon, and dark fruit" on the nose, developing into a palate that's "dense and full-bodied with caramel, baking spice, black pepper, vanilla, toasted oak, and concentrated dark sweetness." Given the sheer intensity of this pour, the recommended approach is a small, considered neat pour — and at nearly 150 proof, adding water gradually is genuinely advised to let the whiskey's full character open up without overwhelming the palate. As with every barrel in Rare Character's Brook Hill collection, this is genuinely one-of-one: no other bottle on any shelf carries exactly this barrel's specific character, and once this run sells through, it's gone for good.

Origins & Craftsmanship

Brook Hill is a whiskey brand with roots in the late 19th-century pioneer era of Kentucky whiskey, originally crafted by Joseph L. Friedman, whose Brook Hill brand maintained legal production through Prohibition — a genuine point of historical distinction. Rare Character Whiskey Co., an independent bottler known for meticulous single-barrel selections, has since revived the Brook Hill name, releasing individual barrels of both bourbon and rye under its own careful curation.

"Wild Fire Rebels" is drawn exclusively from Barrel No. C653, a straight rye whiskey aged a full 10 years, bottled uncut and unfiltered at its full, natural barrel strength — 74.86% ABV / 149.72 proof. The extended decade of maturation has developed substantial mature-oak depth and concentration well beyond what younger rye typically achieves, part of Rare Character's broader, highly limited Brook Hill collection of individually selected bourbon and rye barrels.

The Barrel Tap (official tasting notes):
"Nose: Bold rye spice, caramelized sugar, vanilla, mature oak, cinnamon, and dark fruit. Palate: Dense and full-bodied with caramel, baking spice, black pepper, vanilla, toasted oak, and concentrated dark sweetness. The extreme proof places Barrel C653 firmly within the informal 'hazmat' proof range, making it especially notable for collectors of high-proof American whiskey."
