The 2023 Lang & Reed Cabernet Franc is an elegant and expressive take on this varietal—delivering vibrant fruit, herbal nuance and crisp structure. Artfully balanced and approachable now, it still offers subtle layers that invite short-term ageing.
Crafted by Lang & Reed in California, this 2023 Cabernet Franc draws fruit from select vineyards on the North Coast, including portions sourced from Alexander Valley, Lake County and the Central Coast. Their long-standing focus on Cabernet Franc has allowed them to hone vineyard selection and winemaking for this varietal. After fermentation, the wine underwent approximately 16 months of ageing in French oak barrels (new and seasoned) to develop texture and complexity while preserving the varietal’s natural clarity and finesse.
Nose: Inviting aromas of black cherry, raspberry and graphite join fresh herb tones of thyme and rosemary, with a subtle note of violet petal.
Palate: Medium-bodied with lively acidity, the core of juicy cherry and tart cranberry blends with savory herb, slate-like minerality and a gentle pepper-spice finish. Fine tannins provide structure without heaviness.
Finish: Long and clean—lingering red-fruit skin, a touch of subtle anise/licorice, and a cool, mineral-driven close that keeps the wine fresh and food-friendly.
