PRODUCT DESCRIPTION
1800 Guachimontón is the limited-edition añejo from the 1800 Tequila brand, and its story is rooted in the place where the agave grows. The name refers to the Guachimontones, the circular pyramids of Teuchitlán, Jalisco, a ceremonial site built more than 2,000 years ago in the heart of tequila country. The bottle’s red ceramic comes from the same color as the pyramids. The tequila itself honors a different piece of the region’s past: the orange trees that once filled the landscape of Teuchitlán before it became an agave landscape.
That tribute shows up in how the tequila is finished. It is made from 100% Weber blue agave from Jalisco’s Los Valles region, harvested at maturity, steamed in traditional masonry ovens for 36 hours, and double distilled in copper stills, then aged in new American oak barrels and finished in barrels that previously held orange tequila liqueur. The distillery’s tasting notes describe copper and amber tones, an aroma of “fresh citrus orange notes, honey, caramel, vanilla, wood, ripe fruit,” and a palate that is “velvety, soft, pleasantly bitter,” with “honey, orange peel, subtle laurel notes, vanilla, fresh tobacco, and mineral” character.
1800 is one of the most recognizable names in tequila: the brand launched in 1967 as Cuervo 1800 with its Añejo, and the number refers to 1800 as the year tequila was first successfully aged in wood. Guachimontón is the brand’s showpiece, an añejo for drinkers who want something more distinctive than straight oak and vanilla, with a citrus-forward twist that works neat, over a large ice cube, or in an Old Fashioned. The red ceramic bottle makes it a striking gift for tequila collectors.
