Angel’s Envy built its reputation on finishing whiskey in unexpected barrels, and its Cellar Collection is where Master Distiller Owen Martin takes the biggest swings. The collection is an annual limited-edition series of collector whiskeys that use “novel finishing techniques and flavor influences.” Volume 5 (2025) was a rye finished in former añejo tequila barrels. Volume 6 is the first in the series to use two finishes: a blend of ryes finished separately in peach brandy barrels and in toasted oak barrels.
The rye was aged between 8 and 11 years in total before finishing. Some components spent 15 to 23 months in former peach brandy barrels, others 6 to 12 months in toasted oak barrels, and the two were then blended. Martin says the peach brandy barrels were selected to add fruit character, and the toasted oak to bring warmth and structure to the rye’s natural spice. The toasted oak side is deliberately complicated: “I pitched this simply as a Kentucky straight rye finished in former peach brandy barrels,” Martin says, but then he “started playing with toasted oak barrels. We have toasted American oak, toasted chinkapin, and toasted French oak.” The rye itself is a 95% rye, 5% malted barley mash bill distilled in Kentucky between 2014 and 2018, and it’s bottled at 106.4 proof (53.2% ABV), without any added flavoring; the peach character comes from the casks.
The distillery’s notes describe a nose of “ripe stone fruit, baking spice, vanilla and oak,” a palate of “peach, caramel, cinnamon, toasted oak and rye spice,” and a long finish “with lingering oak and orchard fruit.” Other descriptions find “candied peach and table syrup” on the nose, a palate of “ripe orchard fruit layered with vanilla cream,” with “caramel and clove” that “evoke a warm cobbler à la mode,” and a finish that “transitions from confectionary sweetness into peppery rye.” Men’s Journal’s headline called it a fall whiskey that tastes “like a peach cobbler.” About 36,000 bottles were planned for the nationwide release on October 9, 2026, and it’s likely to go quickly. It’s a cask-strength rye with an unusual fruit-forward profile, and a good fit for rye drinkers who want something sweeter and customers who liked the earlier Cellar Collection releases.
Angel’s Envy Cellar Collection Volume 6 is produced by Angel’s Envy in Louisville, Kentucky, under Master Distiller Owen Martin. It is a Kentucky Straight Rye Whiskey (95% rye, 5% malted barley), distilled between 2014 and 2018 and aged 8 to 11 years in total, then finished in two ways: components spent 15 to 23 months in former peach brandy barrels or 6 to 12 months in toasted oak barrels (American oak, chinkapin, and French oak), and were then blended. Bottled at 53.2% ABV / 106.4 proof, 750ml. About 36,000 bottles; released nationwide on October 9, 2026.
No critic scores are published yet for this brand-new release.

Release description:
