PRODUCT DESCRIPTION
Ardbeg Ardcore “Committee Release” Single Malt Scotch Whisky is one of the boldest experimental releases from the legendary Islay distillery. Created as the special Ardbeg Day 2022 Committee bottling, this whisky pushes Ardbeg’s smoky character into rebellious territory by using roasted black malt barley—giving it a darker, charred, almost espresso-like twist on classic peat. Intense, unconventional, and collectible, Ardcore is a whisky made for the most dedicated Ardbeg fans.
Origins & Craftsmanship
Ardbeg Ardcore was produced at the iconic Ardbeg Distillery on the island of Islay, Scotland, famous for its heavily peated single malt whiskies. The distillery launched Ardcore as the 2022 Ardbeg Day limited edition, with a special “Committee Release” available first to members of the Ardbeg Committee fan club.
The defining feature of Ardcore is its experimental mash bill incorporating roasted black malt barley, which is malt roasted to an extreme level. This unusual malt introduces deep roasted notes not typically found in traditional Islay whisky, giving the spirit its “punk rock” personality.
The whisky is a non-age-statement (NAS) Islay single malt, matured in oak casks and bottled non-chill filtered to preserve its full texture and smoky character. The Committee Release is bottled at 50.1% ABV, higher than the standard release strength, enhancing intensity and depth.
Visually and stylistically, Ardcore leaned heavily into a punk-rock theme, reflecting Ardbeg’s playful marketing and the rebellious spirit behind the roasted-malt experiment.
Critics Reviews
Ardcore has drawn strong interest from whisky enthusiasts and reviewers due to its unusual production approach.
On Whiskybase, the whisky holds an average rating of approximately 84.7/100 across hundreds of user reviews.
Reviewers frequently describe it as an intentionally experimental Ardbeg expression with distinctive roasted flavors layered on top of the distillery’s trademark peat smoke.
While opinions vary—as with many experimental releases—the whisky remains a collectible entry in Ardbeg’s annual Committee bottlings.
