Ardbeg has spent decades building a reputation around bold, uncompromising peat, and Trudernish marks a genuine milestone in that story: the distillery's first-ever permanent 15-year-old single malt to join the core range. The name comes from an ancient settlement on Islay's "Enchanted Cape," tied to local legend — the pure water of the well at Trudernish, notoriously difficult to find, is said to never freeze, even through Islay's harshest winters. Ardbeg's own team frames the whisky as a kind of quest, transporting drinkers to Islay to reveal "delicious, creamy flavours hidden beneath its smoky exterior."

Created by Dr. Bill Lumsden, Ardbeg's Director of Whisky Creation, alongside Master Blender Gillian Macdonald, Trudernish matures a full 15 years across ex-bourbon, new charred oak, and Oloroso sherry casks — a genuinely considered three-cask approach built specifically to soften Ardbeg's signature smoke into something rounder and creamier without ever losing the distillery's core identity. As Ardbeg's own team puts it, "ex-bourbon casks typically bring notes of vanilla, coconut, yellow fruit and cereal sweetness. Charred new oak, when used with precision, can heighten the spicy impression, structure and certain toasted nuances. Oloroso, meanwhile, adds a darker, more enveloping dimension, with echoes of nuts, cocoa, spices and ripe fruit." Distillery Manager Bryony McNiven called it "the perfect dram" to introduce Ardbeg's new visual identity, rolling out globally across the whole core range this autumn.

The whisky has already earned a genuine Double Gold Medal at the 2026 San Francisco World Spirits Competition, ahead of its official release. Ardbeg Trudernish 15 Years Old is produced at Ardbeg Distillery on Islay, Scotland, founded in 1815 by John MacDougall, with records showing distillation on the site dating back as far as 1794. Created by Dr. Bill Lumsden, Director of Whisky Creation, and Gillian Macdonald, Master Blender, Trudernish marks the distillery's first-ever permanent 15-year-old single malt, part of a broader visual refresh being rolled out across Ardbeg's entire core range this autumn.

The whisky matures 15 years across ex-bourbon casks, new charred oak, and Oloroso sherry casks — a three-cask approach designed to build creamy, rounded sweetness beneath Ardbeg's signature smoky character.
