A gold Ace of Spades gets attention. A three-liter gold Ace of Spades stops the room. The Jeroboam is the same iconic bottle, four times over: four standard bottles’ worth of Champagne, about twenty generous pours, in one hand-finished, mirror-gold bottle that takes two hands to lift. When it comes out, the music is still playing, but everybody’s looking at it. It’s the entrance, the photo, the toast for the whole table, and the moment people will still be talking about the next day.
It’s built for the nights that deserve a big gesture: milestone birthdays, weddings, engagement parties, launch parties, closing dinners, New Year’s Eve, a championship win, a rooftop or yacht day. One bottle covers the toast for a crowd, so nobody’s waiting on a refill, and the bottle itself becomes the centerpiece, in an oversized ice bucket or tub, with the pewter ace facing out. Pour it for the table, and then keep the bottle: the gold shell makes it a trophy.
The bottle is made as carefully as the standard size. Each metal-clad bottle is finished and polished by hand and fitted with its French pewter label, so no two are exactly alike. Armand de Brignac says it has the most extensive collection of large-format bottles of any prestige Champagne house, which is part of why the Jeroboam sits so naturally in the lineup.
And what’s in the bottle is the same Brut Gold, which is what makes the party work: a blend of 40% Pinot Noir, 40% Chardonnay, and 20% Pinot Meunier from three vintages, with a 9 g/L dosage aged in French oak that gives it its soft, creamy, toasty roundness. Decanter scored it 95: “crisp, fresh and delicate with a lovely creamy texture. It is elegant, refined and very stylish.” The nose is peach, apricot, and red berry with crystallized citrus, orange blossom, and brioche, and it’s easy and generous enough to pour all night.
Four bottles. One moment. Zero doubt about who brought the party.
Armand de Brignac Brut Gold (“Ace of Spades”) is produced by the Cattier family in the Montagne de Reims, Champagne, France, led by Jean-Jacques and Alexandre Cattier. It is a multi-vintage Brut blend of 40% Pinot Noir, 40% Chardonnay, and 20% Pinot Meunier, with a 9 g/L dosage aged in French oak. Each metal-clad bottle is finished by hand, fitted with a French pewter label, and polished. This 3000ml Jeroboam is equal to four standard bottles. 12.5% ABV.
The look gets the attention; the wine earns the reviews.
Decanter — 95 Points (Christelle Guibert):
“The nose is full of flavours and rich with notes of white flowers and crème pâtissière. However, the palate is crisp, fresh and delicate with a lovely creamy texture. It is elegant, refined and very stylish (unlike the bottle!). It’s a pleasant combination of power and concentration blended with finesse and elegance.”
Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate — 93 Points:
“The NV Brut Gold is fleshy and expressive and opens in the glass with aromas of Anjou pear, dried apricot, yellow apple and buttery pastry, complemented by hints of almond paste.”
James Suckling — 92 Points:
“Lots of orchard fruit and grapefruit character.”
Wine Enthusiast — 91 Points:
“This ripe, well-balanced wine has some toast that adds complexity and richness to the apple and lemon fruit.”
Armand de Brignac (official tasting notes):
“On the nose: Peach, apricot and red berry aromas are followed by crystalized citrus, orange blossom and hints of brioche. The mouth feel is soft and creamy, with a hint of toastiness, from the unique Armand de Brignac dosage which is aged for one year in French oak barrels.”
