PRODUCT DESCRIPTION
Some bottles get poured. This one gets noticed. The moment an Armand de Brignac “Ace of Spades” comes out of the box, with its polished gold metallic finish and the pewter ace on its face, the room knows what’s happening: a birthday, a deal closed, a promotion, a launch party, a wedding, a night that’s meant to be remembered. It has become one of the most recognizable bottles in the world, a fixture of hip-hop, nightlife, and celebration culture, the Champagne you buy when the moment deserves to be seen as well as tasted.
The look is deliberate, and it is made by hand. Each bottle is coated in metal, then finished, polished, and fitted by hand with a French pewter label, and the brand says only about twenty bottles can be completed per person per hour, so no two are exactly alike. It’s presented in a lacquered wooden gift box, and it comes in one of the largest ranges of big formats in prestige Champagne, so you can scale the moment from a single bottle to a statement magnum.
And the wine is serious. It comes from the Cattier family, twelfth- and thirteenth-generation Champagne growers on the Montagne de Reims, who created Armand de Brignac with the goal of making a prestige cuvée for the 21st century. The Brut Gold is a blend of three vintages, 40% Pinot Noir, 40% Chardonnay, and 20% Pinot Meunier, with the dosage aged a year in French oak, which gives it the creamy, toasty roundness it’s known for. It’s rich enough to stand up to a celebration and polished enough to drink all night. Decanter scored it 95: “crisp, fresh and delicate with a lovely creamy texture. It is elegant, refined and very stylish.”
Whether it’s the centerpiece of a table, the gift that says you’re thinking big, or a bottle that finishes the story of a great night, it’s built to be the moment people talk about.
Armand de Brignac Brut Gold (“Ace of Spades”) is produced by the Cattier family in the Montagne de Reims, Champagne, France, led by Jean-Jacques and Alexandre Cattier. It is a multi-vintage Brut blend of 40% Pinot Noir, 40% Chardonnay, and 20% Pinot Meunier, aged a minimum of 36 months on the lees, with a dosage aged in French oak. Each metal-clad bottle is finished by hand, fitted with a French pewter label, and polished, and comes in a lacquered wooden gift box. 12.5% ABV, 750ml.
The look gets the attention; the wine earns the reviews.
Decanter — 95 Points (Christelle Guibert):
“The nose is full of flavours and rich with notes of white flowers and crème pâtissière. However, the palate is crisp, fresh and delicate with a lovely creamy texture. It is elegant, refined and very stylish (unlike the bottle!). It’s a pleasant combination of power and concentration blended with finesse and elegance.”
Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate — 93 Points:
“The NV Brut Gold is fleshy and expressive and opens in the glass with aromas of Anjou pear, dried apricot, yellow apple and buttery pastry, complemented by hints of almond paste.”
James Suckling — 92 Points:
“Lots of orchard fruit and grapefruit character.”
Wine Enthusiast — 91 Points:
“This ripe, well-balanced wine has some toast that adds complexity and richness to the apple and lemon fruit.”
Armand de Brignac (official tasting notes):
“On the nose: Peach, apricot and red berry aromas are followed by crystalized citrus, orange blossom and hints of brioche. The mouth feel is soft and creamy, with a hint of toastiness, from the unique Armand de Brignac dosage which is aged for one year in French oak barrels.”
