The brand dates back to 1863, when pharmacist James Burrough began distilling gin using a carefully balanced botanical recipe that remains the foundation of Beefeater today.

The gin is crafted using a traditional London Dry distillation method, where botanicals are steeped in neutral grain spirit for approximately 24 hours before being distilled in copper pot stills. This process extracts essential oils and flavors from the botanicals, creating a gin that is crisp, aromatic, and dry.

The classic Beefeater botanical recipe includes nine botanicals, carefully balanced to deliver a bright and traditional gin profile:
