PRODUCT DESCRIPTION
Prosecco doesn't have an official Grand Cru, but it has Cartizze. This small hilltop in Valdobbiadene, with its own appellation, Valdobbiadene Superiore di Cartizze DOCG, covers only about 106 to 107 hectares and is owned by around 140 growers. Trade press compares its size to Corton Grand Cru or Chablis Grand Cru and calls it "the zenith of Prosecco winemaking." The slopes are steep and face the sun, the soils are ancient marine marl and sandstone, and every vineyard task is done by hand, with the harvest in early October. Glera ripens more slowly here, which gives it a richer, more harmonious acidity.
Bisol, a family-owned winery that has been making wine in this region since 1542, holds about seven acres in Cartizze, which the winery calls its flagship and "the crown jewel of Bisol." The 2023 is 100% Glera, farmed sustainably on south-facing slopes, made with selected yeast, with no malolactic fermentation and no aging, then filtered and bottled with minimal oxygen exposure to preserve freshness. It is bottled at 11.5% ABV with 22 g/L of residual sugar, 4.9 g/L total acidity, and a pH of 3.3. "Dry" in Prosecco terms means a touch of residual sugar, which is why this wine has a soft, rounded fruitiness balanced by bright acidity.
Vinous scored the 2023 92 Points: "Delicate and finessed, the 2023 Valdobbiadene Prosecco Superiore di Cartizze slowly evolves its bouquet of peach sorbet, green melon, mint leaf and chamomile aromas. It's beautifully balanced between sweetness and tension, with ripe orchard fruit notes and confectionary spices swirling across a wave of juicy acidity," and "everything is perfectly in place as the 2023 displays a beautiful harmony, leaving a cascade of inner florals and hints of candied citrus." Bisol's own notes describe "a luxurious and creamy mousse that immediately captures the senses," with "a smooth and velvety taste" carrying delicate hints of apricot.
For house-style context, the 2024 Cartizze Dry earned 92 points each from James Suckling and Vinous and was named Grand Master at the 2025 Prosecco Masters, the finest bottle tasted at the competition. This is a serious, special-occasion Prosecco, the kind you'd pour for a celebration or when a mimosa isn't what you have in mind.
